Some new notes are posted for our new unit, Homeostasis, which we are starting on Monday. Please print these off before Monday's class.

Friday, November 28, 2008

Today, students wrote the protein synthesis and biotechnology test. We will start the homeostasis unit on Monday. Watch the skies on Sunday night!
On Thursday, students continued to review for the test.

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Today, students presented their awesome BST projects and then an informal debate erupted. Remember to study for your protein synthesis and biotechnology test, which is on Thursday.
On Tuesday, students worked on the review for Thursday's test.

Monday, November 24, 2008

Today students worked on their bst project...it will be presented on Wednesday. Tomorrow we will work on test review so bring your copy of the protein synthesis and biotechnology review to class (it is posted in the notes section).

Saturday, November 22, 2008

On Friday we completed the unit by discussing the steps involved in transformation. Please bring any materials needed for working on your BST project to class on Monday.
On Thursday we took up homework questions and began discussing the process of transformation involving plasmids.
On Wednesday, we discussed a few more genetisist's tools...methylases, ligases, and gel electrophoresis. There are some textbook questions to answer.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Today we began the biotechnology section of the Molecular Genetics unit. This is chapter 6 of your textbook. There are 4 questions to do for homework.

Monday, November 17, 2008

Today we went over the chromosome note. We also took up the gene control worksheet and tried the Toxin game on ZeroBio.com. We will be begining the Biotechnology Note 1 tomorrow.

Friday, November 14, 2008

Please print off the chromosome note and the remaining biotechnology notes for next week.
Today students completed an open-book, performance task on protein synthesis and mutations.
On Thursday, students learned about genetic mutations. They spent some time creating their own note on point and chromosomal mutations. We then viewed another episode of Cracking the Code. This episode was about how the sequences of protein synthesis were discovered.
On Wednesday, students learned about the gene control that understood in prokaryotes. The lac and trp operons were studied. There is a worksheet on this to be completed.

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Today was a research class for the BST project. Please be sure to have read the section in chapter 5 on Control of Gene Expression as this will be covered tomorrow....it is a difficult topic.

Monday, November 10, 2008

Today we went over the DNA test and the unit 1 application project. We began taking up the Genetics Challenge Worksheet. This will continue on Wed. You have a research period tomorrow.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Today, students learned about protein synthesis by examining transcription and translation. We also discussed differences between DNA and RNA. A tutorial on the web was viewed. More tutorials are now listed under the "notes" section of this blog. There are 6 homework questions from the end of the protein synthesis note to do for homework.
On Tuesday, students wrote the DNA test. Protein synthesis was begun.

Monday, November 3, 2008

The Cell Respiration & Photosynthesis test was taken up today. The students then viewed a video from Cracking the Code about The Human Genome Project. Remember, you have a DNA test tomorrow.
