DNA replication was reviewed and a film on Genetically Modified Foods was viewed. Tomorrow will be a research class for the rBST project.

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

The Extracting DNA from Onions lab was performed today. Please answer the lab questions and print off the DNA review for tomorrow's class.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Today we examined DNA replication in detail. Please complete the two sides of the handout from today's class. The DNA extraction lab is tomorrow.

Monday, October 27, 2008

Today we reviewed DNA structure and viewed a film called The DNA Obsession. DNA replication was introduced and will continue tomorrow. For homework, make sure you have read all of chapter 4.

Friday, October 24, 2008

Today, we finished our look at DNA's molecular structure. Students then used candy to create a "model" of their own. They then ate their models :) Finally, students completed a colouring activity on the DNA molecule. Over the weekend, please read chapter 4. (skim read the first section, 4.1, but read for meaning the remaining sections)
On Thursday, students began learning about DNA (unit 2 finally!). We discussed some of the historical events that led to the discovery of the double-helix model.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Today was the cell respiration and photosynthesis test.

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Today we took up the photosynthesis textbook questions. Then we did a Jeopardy style review for tomorrow's test. Remember, tomorrow's test is on aerobic cellular respiration, anaerobic respiration and alternative pathways for triglycerides and amino acids, as well as photosynthesis. Answers to the review will be available tomorrow in the folder on the classroom door.

Monday, October 20, 2008

Today we finished photosynthesis. The assigned textbook questions will be discussed tomorrow. Be sure to print off the cell respiration and photosynthesis review for tomorrow's class.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

On Friday, we finished the light reactions. The Calvin Cycle will be covered on Monday. Remember, test next week and application assignment is due.
On Thursday we began looking at the light reactions of photosynthesis. This is photosynthesis note 2.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Today we went over an introduction to photosynthesis....chloroplasts, leaf structure, chlorophyll, elecromagnetic spectrum. The homework from the past two classes will be discussed tomorrow.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Today we reviewed aerobic cellular respiration. Then we discussed metabolic rate, alternative pathways (lipid and protein catabolism) and anaerobic fermentation. There is one worksheet and some textbook questions to answer for homework.

Friday, October 10, 2008

Today students worked on their cell respiration maps, which are due on Tuesday. Have a safe and enjoyable long weekend!

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Congratulations Kelly and Lindsay on your graduation!
Today we took up all the recent work related to the ETC. Remember, your cell respiration map is due on Tuesday. Bring your materials for this tomorrow to class.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Today was a work period for the massive amount of homework from the ETC section of the unit. You can also be working on your cell respiration "map" which is due on Tuesday. The homework will be taken up on Thursday.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Today we went over the ETC and watched 3 animations of the process. Students are working on the worksheet on the ETC, as well as textbook questions. Tomorrow is a work period to get all this ETC stuff finished.

Monday, October 6, 2008

Today we examined glycolysis and Kreb's cycle in detail. ETC tomorrow!

Friday, October 3, 2008

Students wrote the energy and enzymes test today. Cellular respiration, an overview was discussed at the end of the class. Please skim-read section 2.1 and thoroughly read section 2.2 (up to page 109).

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Today was a research class for the unit 1 application project. Tomorrow is your energy and enzyme quiz!

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

On Tuesday we reviewed Biologically Relevant Reactions and Enzymes. We set a test date of Friday for the Energy and Enzymes quiz. We also began discussing an overview of cellular respiration. Thursday will be a research class for the unit 1 application assignment. Enjoy your day off school!
